Select Headhunter is partnering with a well‑established international trading company in the chemical sector to appoint a Department Manager for its Food Segment, based in Jakarta. This role is ideal for a commercially minded professional who understands food ingredients and additives, and who enjoys leading a team to build sustainable, profitable growth with key customers and suppliers across Indonesia.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Food Segment department, including sales, product management and support staff, to achieve revenue, margin and growth targets
Develop and execute the segment’s business strategy for Indonesia, aligned with regional and global objectives
Identify, evaluate and develop new business opportunities in food ingredients, additives and related chemical products
Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers (manufacturers, distributors and brand owners) and principal suppliers
Oversee pricing, contract negotiations and key account management to ensure competitive positioning and profitability
Monitor market trends, competitor activities and regulatory changes affecting the food and chemical trading industry
Coordinate demand forecasting, inventory planning and supply chain activities with internal stakeholders to ensure reliable product availability
Ensure compliance with relevant food safety, quality and chemical regulations, as well as internal policies and ethical standards
Prepare regular sales forecasts, performance reports and action plans for senior management
Coach, mentor and develop team members, fostering a collaborative, performance‑driven culture
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Business or a related discipline
Proven experience (typically 7+ years) in chemical or food ingredient trading, distribution or B2B sales, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role
Strong understanding of food ingredients/additives, their applications and regulatory environment in Indonesia
Demonstrated track record of achieving sales and profit targets and growing a product portfolio or business segment
Solid commercial acumen with experience in pricing, contract negotiation and key account management
Experience managing and developing a sales or commercial team
Familiarity with supply chain, demand planning and inventory management in a trading or distribution context
Excellent communication and presentation skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English
Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities
High level of integrity, professionalism and customer focus
Willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally as required
