​Our client, a leading nickel producer in Indonesia, is seeking an experienced Head of Smelter to lead their state-of-the-art smelting operations. This is an exceptional opportunity for a proven operations leader to drive production excellence, implement strategic improvements, and lead a dedicated team in one of the world's most dynamic nickel markets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of smelter operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of nickel products

  • Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize throughput, recovery rates, and product quality

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers, supervisors, and operators

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and company standards

  • Manage capital projects, maintenance programs, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Monitor and control operational budgets, achieving production targets while managing costs

  • Collaborate with commercial, technical, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless operations

  • Drive operational excellence through the implementation of best practices and innovative technologies

  • Prepare detailed operational reports and present performance metrics to senior management

  • Build and maintain relationships with government authorities, contractors, and key stakeholders

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline; Master's degree preferred

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in smelter operations within the nickel, copper, or base metals industry

  • At least 7 years in senior leadership roles with proven P&L responsibility

  • Extensive knowledge of rotary kiln electric furnace (RKEF) or similar pyrometallurgical processes

  • Strong understanding of Indonesian mining regulations and environmental compliance requirements

  • Demonstrated track record of achieving production targets and implementing operational improvements

  • Excellent leadership and people management skills with experience leading large, diverse teams

  • Fluency in English required; Bahasa Indonesia proficiency highly advantageous

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with data-driven decision-making skills

  • Willingness to be based in Indonesia and work in remote locations as required
